Misconduct hearings are a formal process.
The below conditions of entry and information apply.
You must agree to follow these conditions when registering to attend a hearing.
If anyone breaches these conditions of entry, they will be asked to leave and will be escorted from the premises.
- Public and press are requested to arrive at the reception area of Police Headquarters, at least 15 minutes before the start of proceedings.
- You must confirm your identity before entry will be allowed. Please produce photographic identification to allow verification of your identity.
- Visitors are required to sign in and out, and to wear a visitor badge at all times when on police premises. Please do not leave the premises without signing out.
- No recording equipment, photographic or audio, is allowed in the proceedings.
- Mobile phones/devices must be turned off during the proceedings.
- No social media reporting is allowed while the evidence is still being presented.
- Members of the public and press together with any bags will also be subject to a security search as a condition of entry. Sharp objects or blades will not be permitted. Police will retain the authority to seize any article found during a search which may cause harm to any person.
- You must remain in the designated area when the hearing is not in progress and must consult with your chaperones if you have any queries.
- Please do not leave the room or enter the room until there is a break in proceedings.
- You must not disrupt the proceedings; your entry is as an observer only. Any disruption to proceedings may result in you being asked to leave and/or escorted from the premises.
- If members of North Yorkshire Police wish to attend the hearing they may do so only as a member of public. They cannot attend in duty time.
General information
- There is limited visitor parking at the front of the HQ building. There are public parking areas nearby. Parking costs will not be reimbursed.
- Smoking is not allowed on police premises.
- If you have a disability that may result in difficulty evacuating the building in a timely manner in the event of a fire, you must make this known at the time of entering the building.
- You will be accompanied while within the HQ building.
- An accessible toilet is available on the ground floor.
- Please do not leave any bags or personal belongings unattended.
- Refreshments are not provided and those who bring their own are reminded that food and drink cannot be consumed in the hearing room.
- If a scheduled fire alarm is due to take place, staff will advise prior to the commencement of the hearing.
- Fire exits and assembly point are clearly marked around police premises; assembly point is at the front of the HQ building.
These conditions are set for a number of reasons, including ensuring fairness during the proceedings to all parties. They are also to ensure your safety while on police premises and the safety of others.
