Q1. Please kindly provide details of numbers of individuals stopped and searched; arrested; charged with offences who have been identified by police as being illegal entrants to the United Kingdom.

By illegal entrants we mean:

(1) those who entered the UK without leave or who have absconded after being granted temporary admission (these include entrants by way of airports, channel crossings or via vehicles)

(2) those who enter in breach of a deportation order;

(3) those who have secured leave by means of material deception.

The information is sought for the years from 2017 to 2024 (or latest available figures)

Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information
To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by North Yorkshire Police.  

Decision
I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.

Q1. Please see table below showing the number of arrests where the arrest reason is immigration (including those where an individual has been detained under immigration) together with those charged, in the period 1 January 2017 to 16 October 2024.

When considering the above data, please note:

• There is no Immigration stop and search power and therefore, we are only able to provide stop and search data where there is an arrest linked.
• An individual can be charged with multiple offences, which can also differ from the arrest reason. The data is representative of the number of custody records and not the number of offences.

Please note that systems used for recording information are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  It should be noted therefore that this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other responses you may receive.
