Initial request (7 December 2024)
Q1. Between the time period January 2023 and August 2024, data on how many days it takes from the initial reporting of child sexual abuse (including viewing of online CSA and CSE images) to case closure (court outcome or no further action) i.e how long does it take from report to court
Q2. We would like to know how long these people are out on the streets before any conviction (custodial, suspended sentence or release without charge) ideally broken down for each case but the data as an average for the police force area would be good too
Q3. Would also be helpful to know if you have any timescales are set by your force that these cases are supposed to be dealt within.
Revised request (12 December 2024)
Q1. Would you be able to provide us the data that shows the length of time it takes from report to arrest for example? So from the date the police are made aware of an individual who is committing this crime to the date of their arrest, in the first instance?
Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information

Decision
I have today decided to disclose the following information to you.
Q1. Please see the below table showing the number of days between date of report and date of first arrest (for example, there may be additional arrests at a later date if other offences are uncovered during the course of an investigation) in the period 1 January 2023 to 31 August 2024. Please note that the data represents the number of individuals arrested (there may be more than one offender linked to an offence).

Please note that where a significant time has elapsed between report and arrest, this is predominantly as a result of delays receiving digital forensic evidence, the necessity to review large amounts of material and/or CPS delays.
Please note that systems used for recording information are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. It should be noted therefore that this force’s response to your questions should not be used for comparison purposes with any other responses you may receive.
