Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information for the past five years (2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019):
MOT fines
Q1. The number of fines issued for cars without an MOT, broken down by month.
Q2. The total cost of fines given to drivers who have driven without an MOT, broken down by month
Please can you provide this information in an Excel spreadsheet or CSV file.

Extent and Result of Searches to Locate Information
To locate the information relevant to your request searches were conducted within North Yorkshire Police. I can confirm that some of the information you have requested is held by North Yorkshire Police.
Decision
I have today decided to disclose the located information to you which is correct as of 12 October 2024.
Q1. North Yorkshire Police issue a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty (COFPN) which is equates to a fine should the applicant choose to comply. Please see the table below which shows the number of COFPN issued from 01 January 2019 to 12 October 2024, broken down by month and year.

Q2. This information is not held by North Yorkshire Police. Although the fines are issued by NYP we are not able to keep track of those who accepted the fine and paid it, or those who challenged the fine and were directed via the courts to challenge the alleged offence. Furthermore, all payments are made to H M Courts & Tribunals Service.
