FOI 0487-2026/27- St James Retail Park incidents

Request:

Bramall Properties own the St James Retail Park, Knaresborough HG5 8PZ. Over the last 3 years we have had complaints on an occasional basis from a residential neighbour, especially in summer, about anti-social behaviour on the site which involves individuals revving their car engines and the associated noise. We have tried to resolve the matter by installing vehicle barriers which can be closed at night by a security company employed for the purpose. The problem we have is that when they are closed, people just drive into them until they break. Also we have to allow part of the car park to be open for use by McDonalds and Boots customers as both tenants are open until late. We are now looking at the possibility of installing a cctv system but before we do please can you confirm the following:

1. In the last 12 months have you received any complaints about anti social behaviour on the site. If so, how many?

2. If we were to install a cctv system and we caught someone damaging the barriers on camera, would you prosecute the culprit or is it a case of us processing an insurance claim against the individual's insurance.

The cctv system is estimated to cost £30,000 and we do not want to go to this expenditure if there is not a serious issue and the culprits cannot be pursued for damages.
