Notice of Gross Misconduct Hearing in respect of Officer A

A Gross Misconduct Hearing will be held in respect of Officer A, who is alleged to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviours in relation to, Authority Respect and Courtesy, Equality and Diversity and Discreditable Conduct

Venue:            North Yorkshire Police Headquarters, Alverton Court, Crosby Road,                                              Northallerton, DL6 1BF

It is alleged that Officer A breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in that:

On 19 October 2023 whilst you were on duty you breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in that you made comments that were racist in nature by:-

• comparing an officer’s skin colour to chocolate bars,
• stating words to the effect of ‘I can call you Bounty or coconut or Milky Way’,
• remarking on the lack of perceived tan when they returned from holiday.

On 20 October 2023 whilst you were on duty it is alleged that you breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in that you made comments that were racist in nature by:-

• telling an officer to inform another officer that he is a ‘Galaxy’.

Between April 2022 and October 2023 whilst you were on duty it is alleged that you breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour in that over a period of time you made repeated comments that were racist in nature and content by:-

• comparing an officer to chocolate bars,
• making insulting comments about Ramadan.

Attendance

Reporting restrictions are in place for this hearing with the Chair directing that the officers name must not be published prior to the hearing. 

Members of the media and public may attend subject to the following conditions: -

• The taking of photographs and the use of film or sound recording equipment during the hearing, except for official use, is prohibited.
• Any accredited member of the media and public wishing to attend to give notice to North Yorkshire Police Professional Standards by 1600hrs on 18th August 2026 by completing the online application form. • There may be parts of the hearing which are held in private session; if that is the case, any accredited member of the media or public attending the hearing will be asked to leave during the private session and will be informed by the Hearings Officer when they can return.
• Further reporting restrictions or anonymity considerations will be addressed at the hearing if necessary.

Any accredited member of the media and member of the public must adhere to any reporting restriction imposed by the Chair.
