Update on 3 June 2026...
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “An extensive collision investigation has been completed into the tragic death of Mr Mitchell.
"It concluded that no further action will be taken against the two men who were in the military truck. They have been released without charge.
"All parties have been updated, and the matter has been passed to the Coroner.”

The family of John Robert Mitchell, the 70-year-old man from Catterick Garrison who sadly died in last week's collision at Colburn, have issued the following statement and photograph:
"John Mitchell: much loved husband, brother, uncle and godfather, will be sadly missed."

Following a fatal collision near Colburn, Catterick Garrison, at around 12.50pm on Wednesday (11 June 2025), we are appealing for witnesses and relevant dashcam footage to assist our investigation.
It happened on the A6136 Catterick Road, near the junction with Colburn Lane, and involved a 70-year-old local man on a mobility scooterand a military truck.
Sadly, the 70-year-old man died while being airlifted to hospital. His family have been informed and we are supporting them.
The driver and passenger in the military truck, both men, are assisting our enquiries.
The road remained closed until 7.10pm to allow the emergency services to safely work at the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered for examination.
If you witnessed the collision and have not yet made a report to the police, please come forward as soon as possible to assist our investigation.
This also includes motorists with relevant dashcam footage of the collision itself or the vehicles prior to the incident.
