Update 11 March 2026

York: Arrests made in connection with vehicle shooting incident in Tang Hall

Three people have been arrested following a firearm being discharged at a parked vehicle in Tang Hall on Saturday night (7 March 2026).

The incident occurred at around 9.25pm. CCTV footage shows a suspect firing a weapon towards a stationary vehicle before fleeing from the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded immediately, securing the area and beginning enquiries to establish the full circumstances. We believe that this is a targeted incident and there is no wider risk to the community.

Extensive searches have been carried out over the past few days to locate the suspect and anyone connected to the incident. These searches, focused predominantly in and around York, have included the deployment of our specialist armed firearms officers.

A scene remains in place on the Tang Hall cycle track while further enquiries continue.

The following three arrests have been made as part of the investigation:

A 34‑year‑old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm and criminal damage.

A 32‑year‑old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

A 29‑year‑old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three have been released on bail while enquiries continue. One suspect remains outstanding.

Our investigation continues at pace. We are appealing for witnesses to come forward and those with any relevant recorded footage who have not yet assisted the police.

If you can help, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101.

If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or make an online report.

8 March 2026 - Original appeal

Extensive police enquiries are ongoing in the Tang Hall area of York after a firearm was discharged into an unoccupied parked car by an unknown man.

It happened outside an address on Starkey Crescent at around 9.25pm on Saturday (7 March 2026).

The suspect approached the car on foot and ran from the scene.

No-one has been harmed and it is believed to have been a targeted incident, with no threat to the wider community.

However, we know that this will cause concern and fear among residents.

We are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area while the investigation continues.

Forensic and house-to-house enquiries are taking place, and CCTV, doorbell, and dashcam footage is being collated and examined to help identify the suspect.

We are appealing for witnesses to come forward and those with any relevant recorded footage who have not yet assisted the police.

If you can help, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101.

If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or make an online report.

Please quote reference number 12260041722 when proving details.
