Following enquiries into the campervan fire on Beaconsfield Street in the Acomb area of York, we have arrested a 58-year-old local man on suspicion of arson.
Firefighters were alerted to the scene at 10.45pm on Thursday (4 June 2026).
The white campervan was extensively damaged by the fire, and two cars parked nearby were partially melted.
Nearby homes had damaged windows, and a business premise sustained damage due to the blaze.
Several households had to be evacuated as a safety precaution, but they were allowed back in their homes by 11.40pm.
The suspect remains in custody for questioning while the investigation continues.
It is being treated as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.
Witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage are being urged to come forward.
