Shortly before 10am today, Friday 5 June, a serious collision occurred on the A19 at Birdforth.
The collision involved a white Honda CBR-600 motorcycle and a white single-vehicle car transporter, both travelling northbound towards Thirsk.
The car transporter failed to stop at the scene.
The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from the York area, was taken to York Hospital, where he remains for treatment.
The road was closed until around midday to allow emergency services to respond and for officers to carry out collision investigation work.
