Rape investigation in York

We are still appeal for witnesses, information and video footage to assist the rape investigation in York.

Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial to help piece together the full circumstances of this incident.

The man who we arrested following the incident has been released without charge.

Through our detailed enquiries, we have identified an unknown man who we need to speak to in connection with our investigation.

It is believed he was at the Harry Hotspur pub on Micklegate on Tuesday (16 June) evening.

Extensive police enquiries are ongoing in the Micklegate area of York in support of a rape investigation.

The incident occurred on Bar Lane at around 10pm on Tuesday (16 June 2026).

The victim is a woman. She is receiving specialist support whilst the investigation continues.

A man has been arrested in connection with the investigation. He remains in custody for questioning.

The scene has been cordoned off to the public to allow for a forensic examination.
