Scott joined West Yorkshire Police in 1995 and was posted to Keighley, the town where he was born. He has served in a number of front-line roles including response, Armed Policing, Neighbourhood Policing and investigating serious crime as a detective in Bradford. He also has significant experience of leading complex change programmes which led to improvements in the service offered to the public. This also included working with external consultancy including EY and PWC.
In 2016, he was appointed as the Chief Superintendent for Bradford District and enjoyed building strong relationships with partners and communities to reduce crime and keep people safe. He has significant experience of leading the response to serious crime, public disorder, critical incidents and working with diverse communities.
In 2020, Scott was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable and appointed to lead the National Police Air Service – responsible for operating Police helicopters and aircraft across England and Wales.
After serving 27 years with West Yorkshire, he transferred to North Yorkshire as an Assistant Chief Constable in February 2023 with responsibility for Local Policing and Safeguarding.
He was promoted to Deputy Chief Constable in December 2023.
Scott is responsible for the day to day running of North Yorkshire Police, providing leadership to support our people and improve community safety. He also leads the response to His Majesties Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) and has a track record of delivering improvement.
He is an experienced Strategic Firearms and Gold Public Order Commander. He holds national responsibility as the National Police Chiefs Council HMICFRS Liaison lead.
Scott is married with two sons and has been a resident of North Yorkshire for over 40 years.
