Role description

A Neighbourhood Support Volunteer is someone gives up their own time to support their local police service.

They help to run local crime prevention initiatives such as property marking, attend local events such as food festivals, agricultural shows with police community support officers, provide early intervention support to local policing teams and partner agencies such as trading standards and local authorities.

Uniform

Most of the time you will wear a uniform. There may be occasions when you don’t.

Time commitment

You can volunteer as much time as you wish, but, if you are involved in an operation or event, this could last a number of hours or all day.

Skills and personal qualities

Good communication skills, empathy, good team working ethos, experience of interacting with vulnerable people is desirable however, empathy is more important.

Training

Training will be provided.

Location

You will be based at your local police station(s) or out in your local community.

Colleagues

You will work with police officers, police community support officers, police staff, partner agencies and other volunteers.

Age limit

You must be over 16 to be a Neighbourhood Support Volunteer.

Expenses

You can claim for expenses incurred as a result of your duties.

Volunteers from outside the North Yorkshire Police area

We accept volunteer applications from out of the area but we do ask you to consider how far you travel as we will not pay for travel expenses outside our force area.
