Rob Gooch was 42-years-old when he started training as a Special Constable in 2019.
Dealing with angry or unreasonable people is a skill that I didn't know I had, and one that has developed considerably since I started.
What is your main role as Special Constable on a day-to-day basis?
I tend to go out on response with a regular officer, getting involved as one of the first on the scene at any given incident.
How do you manage your time juggling working, home life and being a Special Constable?
I'm not sure I'm very good at it but every month I aim to do work two Friday nights (7pm to 1am-ish) and then pick up another shift or training to ensure I at least hit the required 16 hours. This way I can plan well in advance with my wife to fit around the family. This is great in theory but doesn’t always work!
