If you have a firearm certificate but want to buy or receive a new firearm, you may need to vary your certificate.
Please note that these rules only apply to firearms, not shotguns. If you buy or receive a new shotgun, you must notify us within seven days. You can do this online using our transfer ownership form.
Before adding a firearm, you must get permission to vary your certificate.
As part of your application, you can add or remove ammunition from your certificate.
If you wish to dispose of a firearm while adding a new one, this is a 'one-for-one' variation. Otherwise, please choose a regular variation.
Once we've granted you the authority, you can take ownership of your new firearm.
The person giving the firearm will check the authority on your certificate. They will enter the firearm details in Table 1 on the back of the certificate.
They will then notify the police force who issued their certificate.
You must notify us within seven days of receiving your new firearm. You can do this online by using our transfer ownership form.
