We are responsible for Neighbourhood Policing in the western areas of York, including Acomb, Holgate outskirts, Upper and Nether Poppleton, Rufforth, Askham Bryan, Askham Richard and Copmanthorpe. This area features a unique mix of established residential communities, newer developments, villages, and important transport links.
Prevention is at the core of our approach. Through collaborative problem-solving with residents, businesses, schools, and partner agencies, we aim to address issues before they escalate and create sustainable solutions. Residential burglaries
Action taken:
York West NPT continue to conduct house to house and CCTV enquiries as part of Op Respond - our robust response to residential burglaries.
Super cocooning is also conducted after every residential burglary. This is a way of updating the public of the burglary and giving security advice.
The team have conducted hi-vis patrols of areas targeted by thieves and have engaged and provided crime prevention advice to residents.

Patrols around areas affected by ASB and enquiries into any two-wheel enabled crimes

Youth Related Anti-Social Behaviour
Action taken:
The local team have launched Op Harmony, which is a problem solving plan to tackle youth-related ASB in the area, focusing on high-visibility patrols, engagement with businesses and residents, multi-agency partnerships and targeted intervention against repeat offenders. The team are currently focusing on a recent rise in ASB around the Acomb area, particularly around Front Street shops.

Retail Crime
Action taken:
York West NPT have engaged with retail businesses targeted by thieves and have conducted hi-vis patrols of retail premises to deter and reduce shop thefts.
NPT are prioritising offences committed by the most prolific offenders, who commit the most retail crime and have made a number of arrests, contributing to a reduction in retail crime in the area.

Deliberate fires
Action taken:
The York Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team have launched a joint problem solving plan, Operation Firesafe, with North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service to tackle the rise in deliberate fires across the city.
The Operation focuses on educating young people around the risk of starting deliberate fires.
