We have recently seen some rural burglaries in which quad bikes, machinery and tools have been stolen. We believe those responsible are from wider force areas, we are working with neighbouring forces to tackle the issue. We have seen a decrease in thefts however we are focusing on prevention.
Issued 08 May 2026
We have created Operation Passage which is our response to these burglaries. This will see an increase in police patrols in the area, with officers looking to proactively stop those in the Dales looking to commit crime. The Richmondshire Community Safety Hub are involved in the response to the burglaries, along with prevention. They will be offering crime prevention advice and tools to those vulnerable to crime. Should you like a visit from the local team, and would like some of your valuables marked with your details please get in touch through the website and somebody will be in touch.
We have recovered a number of stolen vehicles and made several arrests.

Although we have a relatively low crime rate in relation to shop theft in the Richmond area, we do believe some offences go unreported. All retail businesses now have a dedicated point of contact from the local neighbourhood team, where they are provided with advice on crime prevention, and encouraged to report any suspicious activity.
Reported offences will be investigated and suspects pursued to recover property.
Issued 08 June 2026

We will work alongside Royal Military Police to ensure people enjoying the pub culture in the area do so safely, acting on any anti social behaviour reported, and dealing positively with offenders of crime.
We will also be carrying out education to the local public houses in relation to VAWG (violence against women and girls), ensuring safe reporting mechanisms to ensure safeguarding of any vulnerable persons.
We will use uniformed and plain clothes patrols to identify offenders and to provide reassurance.

Over the recent May bank holiday we saw an increase in people travelling to Richmond to enjoy Richmond Falls. Unfortunately this brought with it some inconsiderate parking and anti social behaviour. Partners have been working together to resolve this, and plans are in place for extra patrols from agencies over hot weather weekends.
Issued 23 June 2026
