I’m Inspector Rob Campbell, and I lead the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Selby. I’ve worked in policing for over 20 years, starting out as a Police Community Support Officer before becoming a Constable and serving in both West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. I’ve held various operational roles, including response, custody and communications but neighbourhood policing has always been where I feel most at home. I’ve previously worked in neighbourhood teams in Pontefract and Knottingley, Selby, and York city centre, and I’m passionate about building strong relationships with local communities. I’m committed to tackling the issues that matter most, supporting vulnerable people, and using our resources as efficiently as possible to respond to local priorities. I work closely with partners and local stakeholders to deliver long-term problem solving and community-focused policing.

  • Priority:

You have raised concerns of speeding and vehicle related disorder, such as E-scooters within the local villages North of Selby.
The areas around Hemingbrough, A63, Cliffe.

We continue to educate parents and children alike about the use of Escooters on public roads and other public places. If an Escooter is seen to be used illegally, appropriate action will be taken in the form of education but if seen again, the Escooter maybe seized. Escooters can only be used on private land with the land owner’s permission. Electric scooters are illegal to be used on public roads and, most importantly, they are dangerous for the person riding them, in particular children.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

The Selby Neighbourhood Policing Team will identify the areas of concern and will target key areas with any speeding offences.

Officers are actively engaging with parents and young people to raise awareness about the law and the dangers associated with e-scooter use.
If an e-scooter is seen being used illegally, the rider will be spoken to and educated. Repeat offences may result in the e-scooter being seized.
Remember: e-scooters can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission. They are illegal on public roads and pavements.
Please think carefully before buying an e-scooter as a gift. They are not only unlawful to use in public spaces but also pose serious safety risks, especially for children.
